Website updated

Today some technical news: I changed my website a little bit (landscape format thumbnails, more focus on shootings than on a general gallery stream: see for yourself) and I removed 377 pictures. This means more than 40% of all images. After that late-summer-cleaning I feel very relieved. On the one hand I know I should select more carefully (I’m not the best at choosing pictures, not at all). On the other hand I sometimes need time to define my relationship to a certain image. Is it just a one-night stand or will there be a silver wedding? I will try to find a compromise in the future.
Furthermore, I’m leaving for two weeks on Saturday – France is awaiting me and my family – and I hope I will be able to update my website with new pictures before. My sister (see my pictures of her) will be with me and I’m so looking forward to take some pictures of her. At the moment she has rather short hair and her curls are curlier and lovelier than ever!

Equipment

On and off people want to know which equipment I use. The answer is very simple, since I have only one camera and one lens.
My camera is a Canon EOS 40D. Even though I think about going “full-frame” one day, I’m very happy with this choice which I made about 18 months ago. Sometimes the autofocus could be a bit faster (jumping and especially running towards the camera doesn’t work that well). I started with a Canon EOS 300D, which was the first consumer DSLR made by Canon, and since then they improved a lot – so don’t worry about your camera if you’re a beginner. I think, every DSLR is pretty good if you’re not planning to do action photography.
No DSLR without a lens – and mine is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4. And what can I say, I just love this lens. In 2007 my first one was stolen and I didn’t wait a day to order a new one. I mostly shoot at f/2.0 because for me it’s the best compromise between a small depth of field and a general amount of sharpness (this lens – like most lenses do – tends to blur a lot at maximum aperture even in the sharpest areas).
Well, I was cheating above: In my bag there’s another lens, but I rarely use it (you can count the shots on one hand, I guess). It’s a Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX. I’d like to sell it, so if you’re interested… It’s a fine lens and it’s a pity it doesn’t fit my kind of photography.
I hope I could satisfy your curiosity a bit. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask them (in comments).
